POSITION: Teacher Assistant                    Hours:  8:15a-315p (32.5 hours)

                                                                                                           Monday - Friday

10-Month Position

½ hour lunch daily

Four times per year Thursday 315-415

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist the teacher in the classroom.

 

    1. Work with the small groups or individual students as directed by the

teacher using specified materials.

 

    1. Assist in the physical care of the students and/or classroom as

needed by situation and department. (including feeding, dressing, toileting, ambulation as needed)

 

    1. Prepare instructional materials as directed.

 

    1. Perform clerical duties necessary for efficient functioning of the class; for example,
      1. Obtain supplies
      2. Computer and/or library for research.
      3. Obtain media equipment, cameras, tapes, etc.
      4. Correct papers
      5. Type classroom materials and use computer/library for research.
      6. Write/type classroom materials.

 

    1. Help to maintain orderly procedure during fire drills.

 

  1. Assist outside the classroom

 

    1. Accompany students and assist in all out of class activities.

 

    1. Participate on class trips as directed.

 

    1. May accompany children home in emergency or crises situations.

 

  1. Assume supportive duty assignments as assigned.

 

    1. Substitute as needed for on-site teacher meetings, staff development, etc. as directed by supervisor and/or principal.

 

    1. Supervise breakfast/lunch/recess programs as required in the department.

 

    1. Accompany/assist students to all activities and programs as directed.

 

RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Interact effectively (speech/sign) with students throughout the school day.
  2. Foster an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  3. Assist teacher by observing student behavior and keeping behavior logs/charts.
  4. Form a resource pool as needed to cross department lines.
  5. Maintain confidentiality

 

 

2. Any additional duties as assigned not to exceed 5% of duties listed above.

 

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certification

Teacher Aide

Level I

High School Diploma

Temporary teaching license (Valid for one year)

 

Teacher Assistant

Level II

High School Diploma

6 semester hours

1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificate

 

Level III

High School Diploma

18 semester hours

1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificate, or Level II certificate

 

2. Communication Skills

Ability to use Total Communication, and code switch dependent on individual

student needs.

 

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Display flexibility, patience, good judgment and dependability, including time and attendance.
  2. Possess mature personality and good interactive skills.
  3. Respond responsibly in crisis situations.
  4. Display a positive attitude towards children and understand their growth and development.
  5. Possess excellent communication skills

SALARY RANGE

Teacher Assistant - $36,234.00- $45,916.00

Teacher Aide - $29,558.00 - $37,949.00
