FOCUS: The Trade Generalist will perform journey-level work in one trade, or a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of the facility and equipment. Incumbents may supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Facilities Supervisor in all aspects of facility/program workload.
- Perform duties involving general repair and maintenance, carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing repair and maintenance, drywall, priming, painting, plastering in classrooms throughout the entire facility. This is not limited to basic electrical such as changing bulbs, outlets, basic rewiring, and plumbing such as repairing faucets, sinks, toilet, sump pumps and other facility equipment.
- Perform outside grounds maintenance as needed according to season, such as pointing defected areas, seal water gaps, improving drainage, repainting fire escape, and other areas as identified as needed.
- Duties involve moving furniture, air conditioners and materials to meet school needs.
- Understand basics of school alarm/bell systems, protocols for emergencies such as lockdowns, fire drills, routine inspections (FIRE, CAT1, TET, DEP, DOH, LEAD, OIL, WATER, Boiler, Elevator) annual vehicle inspection, fire extinguishers and Ansel system.
- Kitchen quarterly degreasing, refrigeration for food per DOE specification.
- Certification in OSHA, First Aid, Fire prevention, Lead abatement, Daycare clearance.
- Understand basics of plumbing and heating systems (including boilers).
- Coordinating and communicating with facility supervisor, and other team members to understand schedules, workload, and set priorities.

RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Facility Supervisor and Department members.
- Help with cleaning and deliveries.
- Assist in the maintenance of school vehicles.
4. Transport passengers in the SJSD van as needed.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Generalized skill in building maintenance.
- Possess computer skills (MS Word, MS. Excel, Gmail, PDF)
2. Possess good work habits.
3. Ability to follow directions & work both independently and as part of a team.
4. All required clearances (fingerprinting, State Central Register, etc.)
